Are you ready to improve your AIM teaching practice? A refresher is just what you need! This course will reinforce the AIM approach and will help you drive deeper student engagement.
This workshop is designed to provide extensive hands-on experience with a few aspects of AIM that teachers often need to review and reinforce. It is a preparatory workshop for success with Level 3 Up your Game with AIM workshop, which we are modifying to meet the needs of more experienced AIM teachers.

Day 1
Moving students forward with oral language development
In these sessions you will:
- review and extend your knowledge of AIM techniques and strategies to develop oral language proficiency
- learn how to ensure that students maintain the target language only and improve their oral language skills!
- learn fun AIM games that promote oral language development
- how to begin to refine oral language skills/grammar knowledge through AIM's three-step inductive approach
Day 2:
Promoting creativity with the language in oral and written activities
In these sessions you will:
- learn how to effectively engage in the most important (and fun!)AIM activity - Oral and Written Story retelling/Extension...and Book Publishing!
- experience how to develop students' written language accuracy/creativity
- gain ideas as to how manage effectively partner/group activity time, maintaining the target language only through AIM systems
- learn about AIM's assessment and student self-assessment tool
You will receive recordings of the sessions to view at your leisure for 90 days!

2. Engaging Activities That Build Students’ Descriptive Language - 9:20am-10:20am PST / 12:20am-1:20pm EST - with Wendy Maxwell, Creator of the AIM
In this session, you will:
- understand how AIM effectively builds students' vocabulary from one Kit to the next in a spiralling manner
- gain hands-on experience with AIM's most popular vocabulary-building activities
- view video samples of classes and individual students engaging in these activities!
3. Being Creative with Les mots qui vont ensemble and Les phrases bizarres! - 10:30am-11:30am PST / 1:30pm-2:30pm EST -

In this session, you will:
- Discover a fun, low-prep vocabulary activity—“Bizarre ou pas?”—that boosts student engagement through prediction, visualization, and critical thinking.
- Learn how to use short 4-minute videos to reinforce specific AIM vocabulary through word association and sentence analysis.
- Leave with ready-to-use ideas for integrating “Les mots qui vont ensemble” into your classroom, including an end-of-year project to showcase student learning to parents.
4. Vocabulary in Action: Oral Activities that Get Students Talking - 11:40am - 12:40pm PST / 2:40pm-3:40pm EST - with Wendy Maxwell, Creator of the AIM
In this session, you will:
- understand what AIM activities support students' ability to describe effectively, an important aspect of language proficiency
- receive hands-on experience with each activity, so that you understand how to effectively model each one
- view how even the early/basic activities are scaffolded so that as students progress with AIM, they become better at describing!
5. Teaching reading to Beginner French students with Les sons readers series - 12:50pm-1:50pm PST / 3:50pm-4:50pm EST - with Pauline Galea, AIM certified Teacher/Mentor, host of Parlez avec Pauline
In this session, you will:
- Experience Pauline’s new readers series ‘Les sons’ with a focus on the Science of Reading
- Provide hands-on practice to show how to effectively use AIM strategies such as des questions totales et partielles and
- Provide hands-on practice with activities such Qu’est-ce que tu vois dans l’image ? and Décris l’image to develop oral language skills in short, simple activities
